THE passenger killed in a collision near Capenhurst following a police pursuit was an Ellesmere Port man.
James Brunning, 30, died following a collision on the A540 close to the Yacht Inn at about 3.23am on Wednesday.
The driver suffered serious injuries while a third man, believed to have been in the car, has gone missing and is likely to be hurt.
The incident has been referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC).
Cheshire Police originally received a call from a member of the public who had seen three men wearing balaclavas and carrying a sledgehammer in the car park of the Eight Rights pub in Chester at 3.08am.
A patrol attended the scene and on arrival saw a silver Vauxhall Omega speeding off from the car park.
They lost sight of the vehicle after following it for a short distance on the A5116.
But soon after a different patrol found a silver Vauxhall Omega which had been involved in a collision with a heavy goods vehicle on the A540.
