PORTHMADOG, still winless at home after 10 attempts, hope to end the jinx today when they host mid-table Airbus UK.

Viv Williams, The Traeth club’s manager, said: “The law of averages indicates it will happen sooner rather than later and because of our plight we need the points urgently.”

Porthmadog are second-bottom, but Williams is convinced the team are not far from getting things right.

He said: “What we want to do is to fine-tune our performances, cut out the silly mistakes and take our chances, at the same time working hard and battling.

“It is up to us to get ourselves out of this situation and there is no purpose in looking to other clubs to provide results that might help.”

Porthmadog, who have made two January window signings already – midfielders Mark Thomas from Caernarfon Town and Richard F Owen from Glantraeth – have others due to arrive.

Williams said: “I am looking to bring in a couple more but the details will not be completed until next week.”

But wing-back Kyle Jacobs has switched to Welshpool Town, following midfielder Warren Beattie’s move to Fleetwood Town.

Porthmadog’s only other squad change will involve the return of striker Carl Owen after he missed two games because of a calf muscle injury.

Airbus defender Mark Allen and midfielder Alan Hooley are both suspended, which means that Gareth Sudlow and newcomer Matty Woodward are vying for the duties in the centre of defence, writes John Bridgwater.

Boss Gareth Owen, who believes his side can still push for a top 10 position, is anticipating a few more comings and goings in the next fortnight.
