AN ELLESMERE Port man has been jailed for six-and-a-half years for killing a woman in a hit-and-run crash nearly three years ago.

Daniel Taylor, 24, mowed down Laura Entwistle, 44, on Wigan Road, Bolton on Saturday, January 21, 2006.

He pleaded guilty to causing death by dangerous driving and perverting the course of justice at Manchester Minshull Street Crown Court.

Taylor was driving at a speed of up to 60mph in a 30mph zone when he hit Mrs Entwistle before speeding off and leaving her lying in the road.

About and hour-and-a-half later the Rover vehicle Taylor was driving was abandoned and set alight on a disused railway line close to the Vauxhall Motors plant in Ellesmere Port.
