JEWELLERY thieves are on the prowl in Ellesmere Port.

That’s the message from Neighbourhood Policing Unit Inspector Simon Roberts who has picked up a number of incidents in the past few days.

He said: “There seems to have been a recent series of burglaries and thefts, particularly in Great Sutton.

“Most of these have occurred during the day and in the majority it is jewellery that has been stolen.

“With the increased risk I would like to reinforce the need for all residents to think seriously about their home security.

“It is essential, even during periods of hot weather, that all windows and doors are closed and locked whenever you leave a room.

“At night, if you feel you need to leave a window open, make sure it is on a lockable catch. But be aware that even this does not provide complete protection against determined burglars.

“Ensure all alarms, where available, are in good working order and are set at the appropriate times. And, where possible, try to move valuable items out of the line of sight of prying eyes.

“If you have any information about the burglaries, or see anyone suspicious people or vehicles in your area contact Cheshire Police on 0845 458 0000. If you see a crime in progress call 999 immediately.”
