DRIVERS in Barnton are to face a clampdown on speeding following a survey by Cheshire Police.

A week of monitoring the speed of drivers on Townfield Lane revealed many motorists consistently break the speed limit and consequently endanger those around them.

Sgt Peter Hough, who co-ordinates traffic enforcement in the area, said: “We decided to carry out the survey because of concerns raised by local residents at meetings with PCSO Diana Wiggins.”

A device was installed which monitored the speed of every vehicle to pass it during a week in December.

Sgt Hough added: “The results are staggering. The road has a 30mph limit yet there are some drivers who were recorded at 41-51mph. This is clearly unacceptable.”
