WREXHAM Police are clamping down on drunken and violent behaviour in the town.

Operation Reclaim will run for three weeks and is a direct response to a steady rise in disorderly behaviour during the past few weeks, mainly fuelled by excess drinking of alcohol.

It will be part of the Dyna Ddigon/That's Enough initiative, which targets anti-social behaviour.

The operation will involve deploying more officers in areas and at times which are identified as hot-spots by crime pattern analysis.

The expansion of the town's night-time economy, together with the increase in entertainment and refreshment facilities, has seen a significant rise in demand for police response.

Inspector Chris Beasley said: 'The aim is to make Wrexham safer and more inviting at night and to clamp down hard on those that seem intent on dragging down the good name of the town.

'The clear message is that drunken, violent or loutish behaviour will not be tolerated. If you fail to respect the hospitality of the town and its people you will be arrested.'
