CHILDREN in Ellesmere Port have been given an insight into the workings of the local Neighbourhood Policing Unit.

Youngsters from primary schools in the town were invited to a special week of events at the Ellesmere Port police station in Stanney Lane to see first-hand how local officers work.

Police community support officer Sarah O’Flanagan, who organised the visits, said: “We invited children from eight schools in the Rossmore, Wolverham and Whitby areas and set up a variety of activities for them to take part in.”

The children came in groups each day and were given a tour of the police station, with different events held in various areas.

PCSO O’Flanagan added: “We tried to give the kids a real idea of what it is like to be work for Cheshire police and how crimes are investigated.

“We got each group together at the start of their visit and gave them a full briefing before presenting them with a mock crime scene.

“They were told to gather clues and ideas from the scene and were then taken to the cells to interview a ‘prisoner’.

“From there we showed the children how fingerprints are taken and then gave them a tour of a police van.”
