THIEVES, drug-dealers, and hooligans, can expect a tough time at Creamfields this year as 800 police and dogs prepare to smash festival crime.

Cheshire Police has reassured residents and festivalgoers that security will be tight, and has warned criminals that they will be dealt with robustly.

Police say everyone entering the event will be searched and officers will work the beat in the festival to root out criminals.

Outside traffic police will work to minimise travel disruption, and extra officers will be drafted in.

Security planning began months ago, with police liaising with community groups, parish councils, and Creamfields organisers.

Around 40,000 revellers are expected to descend on Daresbury for the festival from August 23-24.

Festivalgoers are urged to pre-book safety deposit boxes for valuables.
