Staff then opened the safe and a three-figure sum of money was stolen.

The men wore dark clothing and balaclavas concealing their faces. They escaped in a silver Nissan car which was later found abandoned on Mallory Road, Whitby.

The victim, from Wirral, was not seriously injured but was left in shock.
