Police are appealing for witnesses following  an armed robbery at a Post Office in Milton Road, Ellesmere Port.

A man entered the McColls Post Office at  4.55pm on Friday, December 20 and threatened  a member of staff with a weapon - believed to  be a handgun type firearm - and demanded  money.

The offender stole a quantity of cash and fled  the scene.

He is described as white, 5ft 2ins tall, possibly in his early 20s, and thin to medium build. He  was wearing a black woollen balaclava with  roughly cut holes for the eyes and mouth and  a dark coloured hooded top with the hood  up.

DC Tim Cope said: "The firearm was not  discharged and the staff member, although  unharmed was left shaken.

"The area is busy with shops and a pub  nearby and it's likely there will have been lots  of people around at the time.

"We would appeal to anyone who saw suspicious activity or saw the man entering or  leaving the post office to contact police."
