A MAN burst into a Rudheath convenience store armed with a hammer and demanded cash from the till on Monday night.

He escaped with around £100 after targeting Ray’s Shop on Gadbrook Road, but the 40-year-old female shopkeeper was unharmed.

A police spokesperson said: “Just before 7.50pm we received a report of a robbery at Ray’s. A man entered the

shop armed with a hammer and demanded cash from the till.”

The shop worker handed over the money and the man, thought to be aged 20-25, ran off.

“He is approximately 6ft tall and of slim build,” said the police spokesperson. “He is described by the witness as having sharp features and dark eyes. He was wearing a grey hooded top with the hood pulled up, and dark trousers.”

Detectives will study CCTV from the shop in a bid to shed light on the identity of the robber, and enquiries are ongoing.
