THE familiar, poignant bugle call followed by the shrill wail of the siren.
This was 11am on November 11, 2004. This was Armistice Day in Wrexham's Queen's Square.
In all, 20 veterans from World War Two and more recent conflicts plus representatives from the Salvation Army went on parade for the national two minutes' silence to show their respect and remembrance for the fallen.
Ysgol Bryn Alyn, Gwersyllt, was invited to take part and was represented by Katie Bryan, Gavin Hayes, Kelly Huxley and Ben Williams from Year 10.
Katie Bryan recited At the Going Down of the Sun in Welsh followed by Gavin Hayes' English language reading.
Almost 300 people gathered in the square with council officials, the Mayor of Wrexham and members of the Royal British Legion to pay their respects to the men and women who died to preserve our freedom in the wars of the 20th Century and to the troops still fighting today in Iraq.
