'CLUNK-CLICK, every trip' and 'Belt up in the back' were two memorable slogans from national campaigns to show the dangers of not wearing a seat belt.

Now Wrexham schoolchildren have been coming up with their own slogans to promote the safe installation of baby seats in cars ahead of Child Safety Week which starts on Monday, June 20.

Baby seats are effectively seat belts for babies and if not fitted properly they can contribute to the death of a child in a car accident rather than protect it.

Children at Ysgol Plas Coch, Cefn Mawr and Chirk Infant schools have been learning how to install the seats properly as part of Wrexham Council's Kerbcraft road safety scheme.

They then designed posters to warn people to check their seats and to make sure they get a professional to show them how to fit them.

Most reputable motor parts stores that sell car seats have trained staff who will install them for free or will show you how to install them yourself.

For each school the entries were judged and prizes of giant teddies were handed out.

Chirk and Cefn Mawr even had a surprise guest, Wrexham's young player of the season, Mark Jones, to hand out their prizes and certificates.

'It is important to wear your seat belt, we teach our children that from an early age,' said Wrexham road safety officer Sheila Humphrey-Jones.

'We wouldn't let our children use a broken or faulty seat belt, so where is the sense in placing our youngest and most vulnerable children in a safety seat that is not properly installed?'
