ALAN Bennett fans will be in their element later next month when Davenham and Sandiway Players perform three monologues from his Talking Heads series.

The first, Her Big Chance, stars Jennifer Oates as aspiring actress Lesley, played by Julie Walters in the TV series.

Lesley finds what she believes to be her big break, however it is not clear to what extent she understands she is appearing in a soft pornographic film.

In the second, Lorraine Suker takes on the role played by Patricia Routledge, of Peggy Schofield, a self-described office linchpin, whose world crumbles around her when her strict regime is disrupted.

The evening concludes with Soldering On, starring Caroline Young of Harlequins fame, as the recently bereaved Muriel (played in the original series by Stephanie Cole).

Muriel is a strong woman and always has been, so after the death of her husband she is well prepared to cope with the crisis. However, given her son’s dishonesty with money and the vile secret behind her daughter’s illness, Muriel finds that she needs to adapt.

Talking Heads is directed by award-winning John Kerr and runs from September 23-26. Tickets are £6 and can be reserved on 01606 45186.
