PEOPLE experiencing domestic abuse will now be able to call the Wales Domestic Abuse Helpline for support and advice.

Welsh Conservative AM Mark Isherwood was pleased to attend the launch of the Helpline for Wales - the last region in the UK to have its own helpline.

He said: 'I was impressed by the dedication and commitment of the staff, particularly considering the sensitivity and often distressing nature of the matters they are dealing with.

'To date they have only received a relatively small number of calls because people are not yet fully aware of the service. I therefore urge both organisations and the media throughout North Wales to note and publicise the freephone helpline number - 0808 80 10 800 - which can be used by anyone being abused at home or concerned about someone they know.' He added: 'While this provides a service for women suffering from abuse, men and children ringing this number will be referred to the appropriate supportive organisation.

'I wish them every success in providing this essential service and I am sure this will contribute greatly to the fight against the sickness that domestic abuse is within our society.'
