POLICE are hunting for a fuel thief who punched a woman in the face after she tried to stop him leaving a petrol station forecourt.
The man is being sought in connection with five drive-offs from petrol stations in Winsford and Northwich.
During the latest incident, which occurred at Morrison’s in Winsford on the morning of November 6, he punched the female member of staff after she confronted him.
A Cheshire Police spokesman said the car involved was a red Vauxhall Cavalier. The vehicle had no registration plates, but had trade plates bearing the code 473 FC.
“This car has now done this twice in Winsford and three times in Northwich,” the spokesman said.
He added: “On November 6, the driver was confronted by staff who recognised him as being involved in a previous drive-off.
“He replaced the petrol nozzle and assaulted a female staff member by punching her. The man is believed to be local but we have not been able to identify him.”
The offender is described as about 6ft in height and of slim build, with brown hair.
Anyone with information, or who thinks they might know who the offender is, should call PC Ross Hamilton at Winsford Community Action Team on 0845 4580000, or CrimeStoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
