A PERFUME company will have quit Ellesmere Port by 2009 at the latest.

Fragrance Chemicals Ltd in Cromwell Road was earmarked for closure a year ago by its parent company, the soap giant PZ Cussons.

Cussons is to start construction shortly on a £26m manufacturing and innovation centre on Manchester Business Park.

Among the 150 workers set to move there will be 20-25 people from Fragrance Chemicals.

The rest will be transferred from Cussons’ headquarters in Stockport and other plants in Greater Manchester and Nottingham. The new HQ is due for completion in 2010.

No compulsory redundancies are expected at the Port factory. In a report to the firm’s management board, Cussons chairman Anthony Green said: “Construction of the new innovation centre in Manchester is on schedule.

“Phase one – the upgrade and transfer of the manufacturing facilities from the existing manufacturing site – is well under way.

“Phase two – the construction of a research and development centre, together with the transfer of fragrance production facility from Ellesmere Port – will be completed early in 2009.”
