THE design of a centre of excellence to care for people with brain injuries has earned glowing praise from a panel of experts.

The £3m Penybryn Neurological Centre at Pendine Park, Wrexham, was named as one of the stars of the Healthcare Design Awards.

The state-of-the art facility which was opened 18 months ago was highly commended by the judges.

Penybryn was designed to look after 38 younger people who have suffered head injuries or have other neurological disorders like acquired brain injury and conditions like multiple sclerosis and or a stroke.

Pendine Park proprietor Mario Kreft said: “It is an excellent building which took a lot of planning because we were determined to meet the needs of people with disabilities extremely well.

“There is a great need for a facility like this to provide specialist care for younger people with brain injuries.”

Plans are in place for a £4m centre of excellence at Pendine Park to care for people with dementia.
