A PENALTY shoot-out shattered Caersws’ Welsh Cup dreams after the visitors paid for their missed chances.

After 120 minutes failed to separate the two Welsh Premier sides, the Bluebirds succumbed in the spot-kick decider as Sasha Walters fired home the decisive kick for Carmarthen.

It was a cruel finish for the visitors who enjoyed the better of the game, only to spurn what chances came their way.

“For effort, endeavour and attitude, I couldn’t fault the lads – all that was missing was a bit of luck,” said manager Mickey Evans.

“It was a disappointing way to go out, particularly as we deserved to win.”

The visitors should have been ahead at the break with Neil Mitchell and Andy Davies both failing to cash in.

Carmarthen were given little time on the ball, with their only first-half opportunity coming when Kaid Mohamed’s close-range effort was saved by Andy Mulliner.

The second period continued in much the same vein with Caersws again having the better chances, Thomas making a superb save from Evans’ header while a headed effort from Geraint Lewis was deflected onto the post.

At the other end Mohamed and Nathan Cotterall were both off target as Carmarthen tried to step up a gear.

Extra time failed to divide the sides despite Caersws again having the better of the play, with Chris Venables twice going close while at the other end fellow substitute Mattie Davies headed wide.

Venables and Graham Jones missed in the shoot-out for the Bluebirds, before Walters converted the decisive kick.
