A PIONEERING scheme for street pastors in Wrexham should be taken up in other areas, the town’s MP believes.

Ian Lucas is supporting a bid for further funding for the scheme in Wrexham, where volunteers take to the streets to talk to young people and revellers.

And he has highlighted its work as an excellent example for the rest of the country.

Mr Lucas said: “I have been out on the streets with the street pastors and seen them at work.

“Their approach often helps defuse what can be difficult situations and really does help keep the streets safer. I believe the current scheme needs more funding and have been making the case for the group with various organisations and agencies locally.

“I know that the police in Wrexham are impressed with the work the street pastors do – and I would have no hesitation in recommending the scheme to other areas.”
