POLITICIAN Stuart Penketh enjoyed an insightful visit to Broughton’s Airbus factory and has predicted a healthy future for the plant.
The Parliamentary Conservative Candidate for Ellesmere Port and Neston was given a presentation of the works and current state of the company by Steve Thomas, Government Affairs Executive for Airbus in the UK.
Mr Penketh said: “This visit gave me a valuable insight into the works of the aeronautical industry and the value it brings to the local economy.
“With so many jobs in the local area dependant on the plant I thought it was essential to see for myself the challenges the company faces.
“With many residents of the Ellesmere Port and Neston constituency working at the plant it is pleasing to see the company is managing to weather the recession and with the new A380 wings being built there I am sure the future of the site is positive.
“However, it is important for the Government to still work to plan for the years ahead to ensure future investment into the plant.”
He added: “The Government should be learning from Airbus’ success and helping other companies bring hi-tech apprenticeships back to the North West.”
