Winnington Park 3 Northop Hall 4

A YOUNG Winnington side narrowly lost out in a big clash at the bottom of the table leaving them hovering precariously above the relegation zone.

Stave Campagnaro put Park ahead midway through the first half after Mark Leigh had found him in open space. But the visitors soon fought back and were level.

Park snatched the lead just before the break through Julian Buckle showing great composure with a fine reverse stick finish after an impressive run at the heart of the Northop defence.

With ten minutes to go, hopes of earning the vital Northern League Division Two West points took a dent when visiting Hall hit the net twice to put Park 3-2 down.

Leigh then pulled Winnington level from a penalty corner, but less than a minute later the erratic hosts conceded another which ultimately cost them a point.

Man of the match Pete Evans tried to grab Park a share of the spoils but his incisive run and shot only found the side netting.

Other scores: Wrexham 2nds 1 WP 2nds 5 (Pinson 3, Charlton, Bowden), WP 3rds 1 Bowdon 6ths 1 (Hughes), Llandudno 2nds 7 WP 4ths 2 (Sambell, Sharp).

On Saturday, Park visit sixth-placed Southport, the 2nds host Colwyn Bay 2nds (1pm), the 3rds head to South Cheshire 3rds and the 4ths host Golborne 2nds (3.30pm).

Park Ladies 4 Marple Ladies 1: Karen Morgan was too quick off the mark for visiting Marple on Saturday as the speedster struck a first-half hat-trick.

Her treble was complemented by an Ellie Capstick strike to complete the 4-1 victory at Sir John Deane’s College. Helen Egerton starred in goal for Park who remain at the top of the league.

The seconds were thrashed 7-0 at home by Knutsford Ladies with Amy Holehouse the star.

On Saturday Park Ladies face Marple again at home (2.45pm) while the seconds travel to Knutsford.
