TWO Winsford youths have appeared in court in connection with the death of a Mid-Cheshire College student.
The pair, aged 16 and 17, were arrested on Saturday, January 31, hours after 17-year-old Ashley O’Brien was killed by a car on Winsford Industrial Estate as he walked home from a night out.
They were subsequently released on bail but were charged last month.
The 16-year-old, thought to have been the driver, is charged with causing death by dangerous driving; causing death by driving whilst disqualified, causing death whilst uninsured and aggravated vehicle-taking resulting in an accident resulting in death.
The 17-year-old is charged with allowing himself to be carried in a stolen vehicle when an accident occurred resulting in death.
They both appeared at Vale Royal Youth Court today, Wednesday and were released on bail until August 26, when they will return to Northwich. A Crown Court hearing will then be fixed because of the seriousness of the charges.
Ashley, of Collingtree Avenue, Winsford, suffered multiple injuries when he was hit by a red Vauxhall Corsa on Road One at 1.35am.
The former Verdin High School pupil was pronounced dead at the scene and the car which struck him was found abandoned at the roundabout at the Northwich end of Road One.
