A GREEN-FINGERED group in Wrexham is celebrating its share of more than £60,000 awarded from the Big Lottery Fund (BIG) to help bring communities closer to nature and celebrate green spaces.

A total of £63,280 has been awarded to 17 environmental projects in Wales, with St Mary’s Church Aided School in Overton, Wrexham, receiving £3,050.

In 2007 the project scooped £7,625 through Breathing Places to develop environmental projects, including a community wildlife garden, a vegetable and fruit garden and an outdoor educational centre.

With the latest cash, the school will host an open day to celebrate and promote its breathing place, located within school grounds.

The event will involve flower planting, storytelling and forest school- awareness sessions.

Many of the funded events will take place during the BBC Springwatch Dirty Weekend from June 6-7, which will see people throughout the country doing their bit for nature.
