A FORMER headteacher and his wife will use Twitter to update friends and family of their progress on a 750-mile charity bike ride.

Geoff Mason, 62, and Georgina, 60, have challenged themselves to ride from Overton to its twin town La Murette to raise money for the Rainbow centre in Penley, currently being built, and Overton and La Murette Twinning Association.

Geoff, a former headteacher at The Maelor School, Penley, is hoping his former colleagues and pupils will support him on his mammoth trip. The couple have decided to use Twitter to keep their supporters up to date with their progress.

Georgina said: “We have both been on the exercise bike to build up our stamina.

“We are just hoping to raise as much as we can. The Rainbow Centre is an excellent cause and always need extra funds.”

The couple have played an active role in the twinning association for the 15 years of its existence.

Georgina said: “We think it’s really important. With all the bad publicity many have been getting at the moment, we want to keep ours active.”

The couple will carry all their belongings on their bikes during the two-week trip, including tents and sleeping bags.

The pair have been actively promoting their cycle ride and were at the Overton fête telling villagers what they planned to do.

Their cycle will start at 7.30am today in Overton.
