NEW Connah’s Quay manager Steve O’Shaugnessey puts his untried squad to their first test against visitors Haverfordwest County today.

The former Caernarfon Town boss will want to see whether the players he has brought together during the close season to wear the colours of new owners Gap can gel together.

One key figure sure to be missed is former captain and anchorman Chris Williams.

Williams, who suffered a cheekbone injury which required a special face mask being made for him last season, made a brave comeback in the Deesiders’ successful bid to avert relegation but has now left for a scholarship in America.

Williams’ exit is partly offset by the return of talented forward Adam Dickinson after his protracted injury problems.

Delaying his final line-up, O’Shaughnessy says his players will need time to become a unit.

He said: “We will be aiming for a respectable first season and keeping out of relegation trouble. Once we have had time to get it together I am confident we can look forward to achieving a respectable position.”
