A DRUMMER from the Congo could be well on the road to stardom after settling in Ellesmere Port.

Felix Ngindu, 36, who has lived with his wife in Ellesmere Port for the last six years, was given the judges' vote at the regional final of Open Mic UK.

Felix, a music teacher, was given the thumbs up by the judges after singing his own composition Saturday Night at the Liner Hotel, Liverpool.

He will now compete in the national final of the competition in Manchester.

Drumming and singing simultaneously, Felix wowed everyone at the event.

Manager Vivienne Spoor says she knew Felix would win.

“They could sing a cover but he chose to sing one of his own songs,” she said.

“There were people from Nottingham, Sheffield and Manchester there and only Felix and another two got through.

“He's an extremely good drummer.

“He didn't speak English at all but he came here, learned English, learned how to drive a car and got a job.

“His songs are in English, French and his local dialect. At the regional final he sang in three languages in three-and-a-half minutes.

“He was in a class of his own. I knew he was good enough to win.

“They wanted raw talent and they wanted to find someone who has got something different.”

Felix will be judged by pop stars Dane Bowers and Liz McClarnon among others.

Felix will be competing for a recording contract and the opportunity to go on a live tour of Britain in the final in Manchester on December 6.
