A BIT of Olympic magic rubbed off on a Matrix Taekwon-Do Club duo as they powered to gold medals at the British World Taekwon-Do Federation (WTF) Championships.

Jade Jones, 15, was the winner of the Junior Female A Class Under 52kg title at the Manchester Velodrome event while Danielle Baker claimed the Junior Female A Class U55kg crown.

Their success follows that of Sarah Stevenson’s at the Olympic Games in Beijing, where the 25-year-old from Doncaster bagged a bronze medal.

Sarah is a friend of the Wrexham club and recently held a seminar at its Morgan Llwyd Sports Centre home to help existing members and attract new ones.

Jade, having been a successful semi-contact fighter, has never looked back since being introduced to the full-contact Olympic style by Sarah.

Matrix coach David Baker said: “Both Jade and Danielle could follow in the footsteps of Sarah on to the Great Britain team and to a future Olympic Games.”

Danielle also won Senior Female A Class U55kg Division bronze at the championships.

Matrix, the only Olympic-style club in North Wales, runs a beginners’ classes on Tuesdays at the Morgan Llwyd Sports Centre on Cefn Road in Wrexham. The first class begins at 6pm, the second at 7pm.
