CHESHIRE Police are gearing up for a day of gruelling exercise – all in the name of charity.

On Friday, April 4, two dozen officers will be working up a sweat in aid of St Luke’s Hospice, Winsford.

Det Con Pete Barnett has organised a 24-hour ‘Gymathon Relay’, which will see eight teams competing against each other on equipment in the gym at the force’s Winsford headquarters.

DC Barnett said: “Once St Luke’s was mentioned there was no shortage of people willing to tire themselves out to raise money for the hospice.

“The teams will do 20 minutes on the treadmill, 20 minutes on the rowing machine and then 20 minutes on the cross trainer before handing over to the next team.

“When we’ve finished we’ll have done 24 hours of solid exercise.”
