A WREXHAM nursery carer has reached the finals of the NDNA (National Day Nurseries Association) Nursery Carer of the Year awards.
Rachel Davies, manager of the Rossett House Nursery, Llay Road, is one of three finalists in the running for the title.
Rachel, who was nominated for the award by parents of the children, will find out if she has won at a gala dinner at York Racecourse on May 20.
Judges said they were impressed by reports from parents on how dedicated and passionate Rachel is about caring for young children.
In particular, they said they were moved by her support for a little girl whose battle with meningitis left her with a number of complex needs. Rachel kept in touch with the little girl and her parents during a long spell in hospital and has also spent her own time caring for the child so her parents could spend time with their other daughter.
One parent also told judges that Rachel went to hospital with her son following a febrile convulsion at nursery then stayed to comfort her as her son was treated.
Rachel said: “I was shocked and delighted to be told that I have been shortlisted for this award. I absolutely love my job and it's great to know that this can be seen by the parents of the children I care for.”
Laura Enright, pre-school supervisor at Cherry Hill Children’s Nursery, Wrexham, has also been nominated for the award.
