NORTHWICH youngsters are to showcase publicly their business skills as part of their Creative and Media Diploma.

The 35 pupils from Leftwich County High School, Rudheath Community High School and Mid Cheshire College will be highlighting work they have produced over the last 12 months as part of a Diplomanet project, funded by the National Endowment for Science Technology and the Arts (NESTA).

The project, supported by Connexions – Cheshire and Warrington Limited and managed by Education Business Plus is a pilot scheme, one of only three to be awarded nationally.

Its purpose is to create a network between local employers and students, who were given project briefs to work to by firms.

Companies involved in the project included Vision4dreams, Imagine, Mexican red and Grove creative.

Leonie Murphy, work-related learning manager for Education Business plus, said: “This project was great for the young people, they worked on real life business tasks integrated with principal learning.

“We are very pleased with links that have been created between the schools and businesses and are certain this model can now be adapted for the other Diploma subjects.”

The students’ showcase will take place at Portal Golf Club, Tarporley, on May 12.

Guest speaker will be David Duffy, chief executive at Cheshire FM, and there will be presentations from students from each school and college.

A second event will be held on July 12 when awards relating to the project will be presented.
