POPULAR Northwich band The Weavils livened up a Saturday lunchtime for shoppers in Weaver Square when they turned up and played a string of songs to raise money for charity.

The group, which describes itself as "a boisterous brew of hot brass and cool guitar from Cheshire's Weaver Delta", collected £101 for The Joshua Tree outside the foundation's HQ on Market Way.

Shoppers were entertained for two hours by the band s foot-tapping mix of world music, jazz and blues, and band member Steve Barr's bosses at Barclays bank agreed to match the sum.
