A BUDDING garden designer from Northwich was named one of only 11 gold award winners after stunning the judges at Tatton Park.

Lee Belgrau, 20, of Cromwell Road, Winnington, won the inaugural Young Designer of the Year competition, which aims to showcase blossoming talent.

The former Hartford High School pupil, now a second year Horticulture student at Reaseheath College in Nantwich, designed a contemporary garden ‘suitable for a young professional couple’ on his 10m by 6m plot.

“Lee’s Red Rhythm delivered a bold garden design and relaxed herbaceous planting against a red backdrop that wowed the judges,” said a Tatton Park spokesman.

Show manager Kris Hulewicz said: “We want to ensure the future of horticulture is bright, which is why we created a specific platform to help young talent break into the competitive world of garden design.”

Lee, who did work experience at Arley Hall and Gardens, is keen on a career in a leading public garden and is considering applying to the National Trust.
