AN UNIQUE event is taking place tomorrow, Friday at Hartford High School to raise the profile of the successful Connect2 Northwich bid which will see the new Riversdale Bridge built and connecting routes all completed by spring 2011.

The ‘cyber cycling’ competition organised by Cheshire West and Chester Council’s school travel team will involve pupils from the high school, Hartford Primary School and Greenbank special school.

In the afternoon the cyber bikes competition takes place at Sir John Deane’s College.

Cllr Herbert Manley said: “The whole purpose of the day is to celebrate successful Connect2 bids across England including our very own in Northwich.

“The cyber time trials have been chosen to promote cycling both to school and work and the winners will be presented with prizes.”

Sustrans’ Connect2 won £50 million from the Big Lottery Fund’s Living Landmarks: The People’s Millions, after winning a UK-wide public vote.

The Riversdale Bridge was awarded £600,000 from the Living Landmark’s Fund. The council has also submitted a bid to the Department of Transport’s Community Infrastructure Fund that will, if successful, contribute to constructing the bridge and the links. A decision on this funding is expected later this month.
