THE Jock Straiton murder trial jury’s deliberations will continue into this afternoon.

The jury of nine men and three women who will decide the fates of co-defendants Paul Blower, Nigel Goolding and Joshua Spruce, retired at 10.38am yesterday.

They have now been considering the four weeks’ worth of prosecution and defence evidence for more than seven hours, but have not yet delivered any verdicts.

Mr Straiton, a 59-year-old part-time taxi driver, was brutally assaulted on Park Road, Winnington in the early hours of Saturday, July 26 after confronting a group making noise outside Sandybank Flats, where he lived.

He died of his injuries in hospital two weeks later and Blower, Goolding and Spruce, all aged 20, have been on trial for his murder since February 24.

Judge Roderick Evans adjourned proceedings for lunch at 1.15pm today, Wednesday.
