NORTH Wales AM Mark Isherwood, Shadow Minister for Social Justice, Equality and Housing, has called for investment in the Brymbo Heritage Site.
In a letter to Assembly Heritage Minister Alun Fred Jones, he said: “I note your announcement that £2m will be set aside from the Welsh Assembly Government Strategic Capital Investment Fund (SCIF) for a Welsh Cultural Heritage Initiative to be led by Cadw.
“I would be grateful if investment in the Brymbo Heritage Site could be included.
“Significant investment is needed to restore existing buildings and to create a new building which will combine preservation of the fossilised forest with the creation of a new visitor centre.
“I am advised that Wrex- ham council and the developer intend to find some funding via the overall joint venture for the former steelworks site.
“However, I am further advised that assistance from the Welsh Government will be key to the conservation, development and enhancement of this iconic Welsh heritage site.”
