NORTH Wales AM Eleanor Burnham has spoken of her outrage that 2,610 students in post-16 education are still waiting for their education maintenance allowance due last September.

The Welsh Liberal Democrat AM said: “Here we are eight months since the start of the academic year and more than 2,500 students have not received their education maintenance allowance.

“This scheme was designed to provide a cash incentive to keep students from low-income families to remain in full- time education.

“It is essential that this backlog be dealt with as soon as possible to ensure that students remain in full-time education. Wales needs a skilled workforce to boost the economy.”
