Welsh Cup Llanelli 6 Connah's Quay Nomads 2

NOMADS’ dream of winning the Welsh Cup was blown out of the water as Llanelli grabbed three goals in the last 14 minutes to give the quarter-final a one-sided look.

But the Deesiders were never four goals inferior and disappointed boss Nev Powell said: "They caught us cold to go two-up but we should have gone in level which could have given us the springboard for a second half push.

"They hit us with three late goals just when we were right back in it and we're still wondering how it happened."

Ironically, Nomads might themselves have led 2-0 had fine efforts from Adam Dickinson and Craig Garside not curled inches wide before Llanelli scored through Jacob Mingorance on 13 minutes and Antonio Cordiliero eight minutes later.

Nomads hit back, Tommy Mutton scoring from six yards but then fluffing a golden opportunity to level by tamely heading straight into the arms of keeper Duncan Roberts.

Nomads came out blazing for the second half with Mutton finding the side-netting only for Mingorance netted his second on the hour, but Nomads responded, Adam Dickinson hammering home from 25 yards on 74 minutes.

The visitors were undone by an own goal by substitute Danny Jellicoe, which was followed by a Craig Williams strike in the 86th minute.

And Llanelli leading goalscorer Rhys Griffiths wrapped it up for the home side in the final minute, firing the sixth from the edge of the penalty area.
