AFTER seeing a young Nomads team hit for six by Rhyl in the Loosemores Cup in midweek, Nomads boss Jim Hackett is looking to resume league action with a full-strength side against Welshpool tonight at the Deeside Stadium.

“It was a chance to give these boys a taste of first team action against a strong Rhyl side and although we went down 6-1 after being a goal in front, they will have learned from the experience,” Hackett said.

The Nomads boss wants to check the mini-slide that has seen the Deesiders drop to 10th place in the league and recover the early-season form that swept them into the top three.

He added: “Welshpool got off to a good start too before last week’s 3-0 upset at home to Porthmadog and they’ll be coming here keen to collect the points so we know this is going to be another hard one.”

First-choice keeper Paul Pritchard is sure to resume in goal after Tuesday’s stand-in Richard Roberts was taken off injured, but otherwise there are no selection problems.

Manager Tomi Morgan is backing Welshpool side to get their campaign back on track tonight, writes John Bridgwater.

“Last Saturday was disappointing, but hopefully it was just a blip,” he said. “The players want to get out there again and put it right.

“But Connah’s Quay is always a tough place to go and they did well against TNS last Saturday.”

John Keegan is likely to return to the heart of defence following illness and left back Paul Dowridge is also set to step back, while brothers Ross and Brett Jefferies are in contention.

A much changed Pool side enjoyed a 1-0 Loosemores Cup win over Newtown in midweek.

“It was an ideal opportunity to give a few of the fringe lads a blow in midweek,” added Morgan.
