PUPILS of Newton Primary School took part in a national event about looking after their own environment.

The Love The Place You Live campaign encourages people to look after their own space and the youngsters did just that by getting their hands dirty to give their school a good clean-up.

The Year 3 class tidied up their classroom and the school’s corridors before donning protective gloves and setting out on to the playground and field for a litter pick which left the place spotless.

With the help of the school’s junior environment officers, an impressive 4kg of rubbish was removed and sorted into items that could for recycling, such as plastic bottles and cans, and the remainder, which was disposed of safely. The field was left clean and safe for both children and wildlife to enjoy.
