NEW year started with a bang for many Wrexham families who celebrated the beginning of 2009 at the Wrexham Maelor Hospital with their latest arrivals.

Among them was Dawn Kenyon of Southsea, Wrexham, who became a mother for the second time with the birth of son Harrison Cuthbert at 3.46am.

Harrison, who for the first few days of his life was known only as baby boy, weighed a healthy 8lb 7oz, and according to his mother is sleeping very well.

“Everything is absolutely brilliant,” said Dawn. “We’re all very happy. We knew we were going to have a boy but we couldn’t decide on a name for ages, we eventually both decided on Harrison.”

Sarah Rathbone, also of Southsea, became a mother for the first time on New Year’s Day, delivering baby Hollie Pugh by emergency caesarean at 12.40pm.

Sarah said: “She didn’t want to come out, but now everything is fine, she’s a healthy 6lb 9oz.”

Baby Callum Jones arrived later at 7.44pm, weighing 7lb 6oz, to parents Bethan Edwards and Aled Jones of Bala.

Bethan and Aled already had a new year birthday with their two-year-old daughter, Seren, who was also born on January 1.

Baby Keira, born at 10.21am, crossed the county border to be born at the Wrexham Maelor, to proud parents Vicky Trinick and Shaun Lewis, of Sychdyn, near Mold.

Keira weighed 6lb 7oz and is little sister to four year-old brother Kyle.

Father Shaun said: “We’re really happy and now we have a little girl our family is complete.”

Minutes later at 10.29am, Mum Louise Brown, of Rhosddu, gave birth to her third son, Alfie Brown, weighing 6lb 3oz.

She said:“He’s quite a content little fellow.”
