THE expanded Super League in which Widnes hope to be playing next year will continue with the same title sponsor after engage Mutual extended its backing of the competition for up to three years.
In an agreement worth a seven-figure sum each season, the Yorkshire-based financial services provider will sponsor rugby’s elite league division until the end of the 2010 season, with an option to extend to the 2011 season.
Paul Kimberley, RFL’s commercial director, said: “We are delighted that engage has decided to extend its sponsorship of Super League.
“They’re an extremely proactive partner who clearly see the benefits of aligning their brand with the quality and excitement of Super League.”
Andrew Haigh, engage Mutual’s chief executive, said: “engage continues to see real benefits in working with a sport that shares the same values and ambitions as our own and we are looking forward to being a part of Super League as it goes through some exciting changes in the coming years.”
The company has been title sponsor of the competition since 2005.
There will be two extra teams in the top-flight next season with Widnes among the applicants for a three-year Super League licence.
The names of the successful applicants are due to be announced on Tuesday, July 22.
