SHOPPERS in Alsager will have somewhere new to buy their groceries from Thursday as supermarket giant Sainsbury’s opens its latest Local store.

The Alsager Local store is built on the site of the St Mary’s Church Hall on High Street, and sees the creation of 28 jobs in a shop designed to stay in keeping with the immediate surroundings.

The opening of the store follows hot on the heels of the new Sainsbury’s Local store on Edleston Road, as the company seeks to gain a stronger foothold in South Cheshire.

Craig Mawdsley, from leading advertising agency Abbot Mead Vickers BBDO, will join Mark Rogers, Alsager store manager to open the store to the local community in a ribbon cutting ceremony at 9am on Thursday.

Newly-appointed store manager Mark Rogers said: “We are really looking forward to opening the new store and to becoming an active part of the local community.

“We’ve recruited 28 new colleagues who I am sure will be a great asset to an already strong team and we are all very proud of the store.”

The new 2,500 sq ft store will provide customers with improved shopping facilities in a bright and customer-friendly store environment, and an ATM machine has also been added.

Throughout the opening day, customers will receive a free eco-friendly ‘Bag for Life to encourage them to re-use their bags for future shopping trips.

The store’s opening hours will be 7am-11pm, Monday to Sunday.
