PATIENTS needing life saving kidney dialysis are set to benefit now that Halton Hospital has received the go ahead for the creation of a new renal unit.

The 12 dialysis units will be created at Halton, and the renal unit at Warrington expanded, as part of a regional plan to expand access to renal services.

With work set to begin next month it is hoped the unit will open in July, providing essential dialysis for 60 patients who would otherwise have had to travel to Liverpool several times a week.

Independent sector provider Fresenius Medical Care Renal Services UK will provide the kidney dialysis service while all patients will remain under the care of their NHS clinicians.
