FOLLOWING the success of their last event, the Chester branch of the National Childbirth Trust is helping the environment by holding another nearly new sale in the city.

Lots of families have had to tighten their belts in the current economic climate, and a bit of extra cash with minimum effort is surely on every new parent’s wish list.

Nearly new sales help to support thousands of new and expectant parents every year. Open to everyone, the sales offer a wide range of children’s products submitted for sale by parents who have no longer have need for them.

This means families can get rid of their unwanted items to make way for new ones at a fraction of the price they would usually pay on the high street.

At least 6,000 products are available at nearly new sales, including buggies, bedding, clothes, equipment, toys and books.

All you have to do is contact the NCT for a sellers pack, price up your items, drop them off at the sale on the day, then pick up any unsold items a few hours later. A cheque will then be sent out a week or two later.

Though the NCT will take between 15% and 25% of the sale price, you could pocket more than £80 for an average sale.

Jane Thomas, branch co-ordinator at NCT Chester, described the sales as a ‘win-win situation for families’.

“Parents with surplus baby goods can sell them to make some extra cash, while mums and dads-to-be tightening the purse strings can find great bargains while funding NCT’s vital charity work across the UK,” she added.

“It’s great fun hunting for the best deals, too. So whether it’s a cot, pram, clothes or toys you need, come along and see what you can find.”

The next Chester sale will be held at Bishops Blue Coat High School, Boughton, on Saturday, October 22, from noon-2pm (NCT members from 11.30am). Admission is £1 per adult. For more information, visit www.nct.org.uk/branches/chester/ selling-sales or email nctchesternearlynewsale@yahoo.co.uk.
