FRESH hopes were raised yesterday in the search for missing Steve Cook from Cheshire, five weeks after he vanished in Crete.
Viewers inundated a Greek television station with calls after it screened a three-hour programme about his disappearance.
The 20-year-old, from Sandbach, went missing in the crowded resort of Malia on the first night of a holiday with friends.
His brother, Chris, 30, said: "We have exciting new leads - we're more convinced than ever that Steve's still alive."
A caller from Greece reported an English man looking for farm work who had a mole on his cheek, like Mr Cook.
And a Crete woman tried to help a young man matching his description who seemed confused and had suffered a head injury.
Family, friends and police have found no trace of the student.
Posters have been put up in Crete and around Anfield, where Mr Cook drinks before Liverpool matches.
