PLANNING officers are advising Crewe and Nantwich borough councillors meeting next week to approve a scheme from Wulvern Housing to demolish the Whitegates House building for the elderly in Wistaston Green Road at Crewe.

The scheme includes replacing the building with 21 apartments for the elderly with associated parking, access and servicing.

No objections have been received and a report from planning officers states: “The scheme forms an integral part of Wulvern’s older persons’ strategy which has determined that the existing building at Whitegates House is no longer fit for purpose.

“It is outdated and only provides bed-sit accommodation and has shared bath facilities. The new apartments will provide a clean, safe and accessible environment for the elderly within the existing community.”
