PARALYMPIC athlete Anna Jackson officially opened a new independent living centre in Ellesmere Port.

The Poole Independent Living Centre in New Grosvenor Road is designed to help people with disabilities and older people remain self-sufficient in their homes, will offer free assessments and advice from occupational therapists to all West Cheshire residents.

It will also provide a wide range of state-of-the-art facilities and equipment, tailored to each individual’s needs, to ensure an independent lifestyle within the community.

Anna, who is from Ellesmere Port, said: “I’m really impressed with this new centre. I think it is great way for people to try before they buy.

“People with disabilities, older people and carers can get individual and personalised advice on a wide range of equipment, which is really important when you are looking for help to remain in your own home.”

To help customers make the right choice, the centre has specially adapted bathroom, bedroom, lounge and kitchen areas so visitors can test equipment in a realistic setting before they buy it.

Leader of Cheshire West and Chester Council, Mike Jones, who attended the opening, said: “This new centre, which is the second to be opened within West Cheshire, epitomises our determination to give people a much greater choice over the services they need.”

Councillor Brenda Dowding, executive member for adult and health services, said: “This is a ground-breaking scheme that has already improved the quality of life for so many of our residents.”
