NEWI Nets 100% winning start to the season came to an end at the weekend as they suffered back-to-back defeats to fall off the top of EBL Division Two.

Two days to forget began on Saturday when Matt Weedall’s men went down 96-67 at the Plas Coch Sports Centre to Kent Crusaders.

With a whopping 10 three-pointers in the opening two quarters, the mid-table visitors wrapped up their first win of the campaign by half-time.

There were positives for the off-colour hosts, though, namely the 27 points scored by American DaWaun Wells and the performances off the bench of 15-year-old Arnas Liutkus and 16-year-old George Greenhalgh.

Nets were much better the following night at fellow high-flyers Leeds Carnegie, but it wasn’t enough to stop them from losing 82-62.

With Wells (23) in the points again and Spaniard point guard Pau Felin at his best, the Wrexham outfit were in the contest until Weedall was sent to the stands towards the end of the second quarter following an on-court clash with the home side’s American star, who was also ejected from the match.

Missing their player-coach’s experience, third-placed Nets, who are not in action this weekend, were swept aside by third-placed Carnegie after the break.
