AN OPENING ceremony was held on Monday to launch a busy sports week at Neston Primary School.

The event included a guest appearance from two local people chosen to carry the Olympic torch recently.

Droo Townsend and Caitlin Kennedy took their torches and took part in the ceremony, which included flag waving, singing and dancing.

Members of the school’s sign language club signed the national anthem and representatives from each class talked about famous Olympians from their chosen country.

The children and VIPs also carried the torches around the field before the school’s own torch was lit.

A number of activities are planned for the week, including orienteering, sports days, a staff versus children netball match, cross-country races and traditional sports day games.

Rachel Muskett, who organised the ceremony, said: “Our thanks to Droo and Caitlin for coming along and joining in. They were great sports and it was fantastic that they could find time to join us.”
